Sitifano Kampelewela has been convicted and sentenced to 9 years for defilement by the Mponela First Grade  Magistrate Court  on December 6,2024.

The convict was found guilty of having sexual Intercourse with a-13-year girl child.

State prosecutor Sub Inspector Wonderful Chipo told the court that the convict and the victim was in love affair over a period of time.

He said,  “on February 28, 2024, Kampelewera visited the girl’s home for a chart with the victim’s father as they were friends. After chatting with him, he called the victim and went straight to the kitchen and had sex.”

The mother to the victim caught them having sex in the kitchen and she reported the incident to Bowe Police Unit hence his arrest.

Appearing in court, Kamperewera pleaded not guilty to the charge of having sexual Intercourse with a girl child which is contrary to section 138(1) of the penal code which prompted the state to parade five (5) witnesses who proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

In his submission, Prosecutor Chipo asked the court to give Kamperewera a stiffer punishment as the country is observing 16 days of activism and the sentence will act as a warning to other would be offenders.

Delivering the judgment, First Grade Magistrate Talakwanji Mndala concurred with the state hence sentenced him to 9 years imprisonment with hard labour.

Satifano Kamperewera,37 years hails from Chiwaula village in the area of Senior Chief  Chakhaza in Dowa District.
