Youthful and tenacious Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) firebrand, Dumisani Emmanuel Lindani, has secured a sweeping victory in the Zomba Thondwe constituency primary elections, earning the right to represent his party once in the forthcoming 16 September 2025 parliamentary polls.
Lindani, known for his dynamism and resilience, crushed his sole challenger Innocent Njala, garnering a staggering 464 votes against Njala’s meagre 50. A former National Vice-Chairperson and later Chairperson of the DPP’s Blue League, the party’s professional youth wing, Lindani has long been viewed as a rising star within the party’s ranks.
The atmosphere turned electric as Lindani’s supporters erupted into jubilant celebrations the moment his landslide win was confirmed. Songs, chants, and dances filled the air in a powerful show of loyalty to a man many describe as the embodiment of hard work, patriotism, and integrity.
“This has been a tough and emotional journey, but I’ve never wavered in my commitment to serve the people,” said an elated Lindani, visibly moved by the overwhelming support.
Meanwhile, in Zomba City South, political veteran Yunusu Mussa, who has previously aligned himself with UDF, DPP, PP, and UTM, suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of James Mpunga.
Mpunga, a respected former director in the Department of TB and Leprosy, secured 134 votes, leaving Mussa with a dismal 12.
In Zomba Ntonya, Mary Banda, popularly known as Abiti Ntonya, emerged victorious in the DPP primaries, further solidifying the party’s preparations for a fierce general election battle.
With momentum clearly in their favour, the DPP’s primary election results hint at a shifting political landscape in Zomba and perhaps a coming storm in the national political scene.
