Peter Mukhitho: DPP Secretary General

In a move that could significantly reshape Malawi’s political landscape, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is reportedly on the brink of forming a major alliance ahead of the forthcoming general elections, scheduled for 16th September.

Speaking on the matter, DPP Secretary General Peter Mukhito revealed that discussions with unnamed political parties are at an advanced stage.

“We are in serious and productive talks with several parties, and Malawians will soon see a strong alliance that is ready to deliver change,” he stated.

While the identities of the potential partners remain undisclosed, speculation is rife, and public anticipation continues to grow.

The proposed alliance is widely viewed as a strategic effort by the DPP to bolster its electoral prospects and strengthen its position as the race to the polls intensifies.

With the election date fast approaching, the formation of this coalition could prove pivotal in shaping the outcome of the vote and the broader political direction of the country. As final negotiations take place behind closed doors, Malawians are left wondering: who will join forces with the DPP?

Few months ago, Alliance for democracy (AFORD) President Enock Chihana said to the media that they were in talks with DPP although he did not erraborate how far the talks went on.

Some weeks ago, AFORD was said to be in talks with United for Democratic front (UDF) and UTM Party, where the results are yet to be seen.

Only time will tell which parties emerge as allies in this potentially game-changing political landscape.
