Police in Kanengo, Lilongwe, have launched this year’s festive season joint patrols, assuring residents and businesses of heightened security throughout the holiday period.
The patrols were officially launched on Monday, 22 December 2025, as part of efforts to curb crime and enhance public safety during the busy festive season.
Speaking during the launch, Kanengo Station Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dan Sauten, said the patrols are critical in increasing police visibility and sending a strong warning to criminals.
“Let me warn criminals out there that as Kanengo Police, we are very ready. With the support we have received, people will enjoy the festive season in peace,” said Sauten.
He commended various stakeholders for their unwavering support towards the joint patrols, describing them as true partners in security.
He said the assistance provided will enable police officers to carry out their duties effectively, adding that the initiative demonstrates a strong and productive partnership between the police and the community.
Meanwhile, chairperson for the Kanengo Joint Patrol Initiative (KJPI), Peter Harawa, emphasised the importance of collaboration between the police and community members, noting that security is a shared responsibility.
Harawa, who is also Security Manager for C. Stainwedge Bridge, said a secure environment is essential for business growth and community development. He noted that since its inception several years ago, the initiative has significantly contributed to improved safety in the area.
“We need to thank the management of Kanengo Police for engaging us openly when they face resource challenges. Whenever we have problems, they respond swiftly, and companies are very happy with the cooperation,” said Harawa.
Established several years ago, the Kanengo Joint Patrol Initiative is a platform through which community members, companies and organisations support law enforcement agencies, particularly during the festive season.
Through the initiative, police and community members conduct joint patrols aimed at ensuring safety and security in Kanengo and surrounding areas.
As part of this year’s support, companies, organisations and individuals have donated assorted items including diesel, reflective vests and cash to facilitate the patrols.
Police have since appealed to the public to remain vigilant and continue working closely with law enforcers to maintain peace and order during the festive season and beyond.
