The Malawi National Youth in Politics (MNYP) has launched a digital empowerment initiative aimed at enhancing the capacity of youth-led organisations to participate effectively in governance and civic processes across the country.

The programme, dubbed the Ndale M’manja Digital Skills and Social Media Visibility Programme, targets district youth networks and youth organisations with practical training designed to strengthen online presence, civic engagement and youth participation in democratic spaces.

MNYP Executive Director Raymondo Chifundo Magangani said the initiative comes at a time when digital platforms have become central to public discourse, especially among young people.

“Digital spaces are now key arenas for civic engagement, yet many youth organisations are struggling to effectively use these platforms,” said Magangani.

“This programme is meant to equip young leaders with practical skills that allow them to organise, advocate and meaningfully participate in democratic processes.”

The selected beneficiary organisations are Likoma District Youth Network from Likoma, Phalombe District Youth Network from Phalombe, Ntchisi District Youth Network, Lundu Youth Network from Chikwawa, Chitipa Foothill Youth Organisation from Chitipa, Elanga Youth Organisation from Mzimba, Paima Youth Organisation from Ntchisi, Catalyst for Change from Chikwawa and Nkhata Bay District Youth Network from Nkhata Bay.

According to Magangani, the initiative goes beyond capacity building by providing tangible digital tools to ensure sustainability.

“In addition to hands-on training, each organisation will receive a free website and a one-year subscription to help strengthen visibility, credibility and engagement with young people at both community and national levels,” he said.

He said the Ndale M’manja initiative reflects MNYP’s commitment to placing governance in the hands of young Malawians through innovation and technology.

“Our goal is to ensure that youth are not passive observers in governance matters. With the right digital tools, they can shape narratives, demand accountability and influence decision-making,” Magangani said.

MNYP has reiterated its call for increased support towards youth-led digital initiatives as a pathway to inclusive and participatory democracy in Malawi.
