Seasoned poet, Yusuf Bamusi has released a poem titled ‘Maloto’, in which he talks of the economic instability the country is experiencing.
The poem, which is his first in 2025, tells of fuel, food, forex and the high cost of living Malawians are facing.
Speaking in an interview, he said he had a dream and decided to scribble it on a paper and recite it as an artist
“In that dream, i witnessed various economic challenges such as price hikes of different essential commodities, lack of medicine in hospitals and water shortages in some parts of the country.” Said Bamusi.
Bamusi further said the dream was more of the reality of what is currently happening hence he thought of writing it and have it recorded.
He added: ” The fuel scarcity has been top of economics problems rocking the country. This has resulted in people of walks of life feeling the pain.”
The poem also touched on the political promises that the politicians make on campaigns but fail to fulfill them.
” This is why the poem is providing hope to Malawians that are experiencing challenges because with our trust in Allah (God) we will over come the difficulties.”
Bamusi said all is set to release an album this year and Maloto will be one of the poems in it.
