Munira Bakali, the incumbent Councillor for Likangala Ward, has pledged to accelerate development in the area if re-elected in the upcoming 16 September general election.

Bakali, who holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Management from the University of Malawi, outlined her key priorities: completing ongoing road construction projects and expanding youth empowerment through vocational training programmes.

During her current term, she oversaw major infrastructure improvements, including the construction of a tarred road linking Mpondabwino Trading Centre to the University of Malawi. She now aims to extend such developments to neighbouring areas like Chilupsa.

“As someone passionate about education and skills development, I am committed to equipping young people—both girls and boys—with vocational training so they can become responsible and self-reliant citizens,” said Bakali.

She also revealed plans to provide financial support for women to start small-scale businesses, aiming to boost household incomes and economic resilience.

Highlighting her achievements over the past five years, Bakali noted: “I’ve overseen the construction of roads and bridges, distributed relief supplies to vulnerable residents, and facilitated cash social transfers. With another term, I can do even more.”

Local resident Jeremia Mazulo commended her for her hands-on leadership and tangible results.

“Councillor Bakali is a responsive and committed leader who has truly transformed Likangala. She deserves another term to continue the good work,” he said.

As election day approaches, Bakali is urging residents to support her bid so she can continue advancing development in the ward.
